Research consistently shows that detecting lung cancer early leads to more effective treatment and better survival rates. Since 1 July 2025, the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) introduced low-dose
computed tomography (LDCT) to screen individuals without symptoms but at increased risk of lung cancer.

Under this new initiative, eligible Australians will be offered a low-dose CT scan every two years, helping detect cancer before symptoms arise and improving overall outcomes.
